Voor Tsjechie is er door de importeur van Garmin aldaar een eigen kaart op de markt gebracht. En van kleine stukjes Polen zijn ook kaarten. Geen van alle met routing trouwens... helaas.

Ooit verzameld, in mijn prille jeugd............ En er zit vast nog wel een dubbele bij.
Dus kom ik deze smurfen cache wel een keer smurfen!

Gna! Hij is afgelopen weekend door Peetee ontmaagd, geen idee of hij er extra Smurfen ingestopt heeft..

En inmiddels heb ik van de boswachter toestemming om op de beoogde plek een cache te plaatsen, mits ik de cache niet te ver van het pad plaats.
Verwacht dus over niet al te lange tijd de Smurfencache online.

Highly-accurate and reliable satellite navigation in Europe is coming a step closer with the inauguration of the first main control centre of a new continent-wide system.
The Egnos (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) facility is being inaugurated in Langen, Germany, on Friday.
The system should go into full operation in 2004.
It works by adding extra information to existing signals from the two military-run services currently in use - the United States' GPS and Russia's Glonass - to provide users with positional data accurate to within two metres.
"This signal is so-called European-made, even though it is based on GPS," the European Space Agency's Dominique Detain told BBC News Online.
Egnos also provides integrity information, warning users if there is a problem with the GPS system and instructing them not to rely upon it.
Degraded signals
One of Egnos' aims is to provide a service accurate for civil aircraft control.
Manufacturers of GPS equipment are already working on Egnos-compatible receivers.
GPS systems tell their users where they are in (or above) the world by telling them their latitude, longitude and altitude.

They derive the information from a network of satellites operated by the US military.
In the past, the US deliberately degraded the signal its satellites provided to non-military users to make civilian GPS systems much less accurate.
Egnos is dependent on GPS and if the Americans decided to resume degrading their GPS signals, Egnos would also deliver much poorer accuracy, although it would warn its users very rapidly that this was the case.
Europe's own GPS
Egnos is the first stage of a two-stage project to create a European satellite-based navigation system.
The second stage is Galileo, an independent network of 30 satellites which is scheduled to begin full operation in 2008.
Galileo will provide a service independent of the American and Russian systems but compatible with them.
The Galileo-compatible receivers will still be able to pick up GPS signals, giving them a much better chance of working well in built-up areas where high buildings can easily obscure line-of-sight to the satellites.
"The real advantage is when you get the two systems working together," aerospace specialist Astrium's Dr Michael Healy told BBC News Online.
Egnos is a joint project of the European Space Agency, the European Commission and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, Eurocontrol.

Ik ga gewoon lekker door, de cachepagina zelf is (door slim HTML gebruik) niet te vinden door op Smurf te zoeken.

Of je gaat al cachend op zoek naar de 1:25.000 kaarten op 3 cd's, de beroemde "kabouterkaarten". Ze schijnen regelmatig in caches gesignaleerd te worden.

Die coordinaten zijn in een speciaal formaat, wat ook op de gartrip site wel te vinden is. Geodetisch of iets in die geest...

Ik heb van iemand een aantal digitale kaarten gekregen, samen met gartrip *.cal bestanden. Zo'n .cal bestand ziet er als volgt uit:

De JPG is inderdaad 1705x1211 groot en de twee regels daaronder zullen iets met de calibratie te maken hebben. Alleen hoe zet ik die 267.0 277.0 om in een pixel? Want pixel 267,277 is een pixel ergens in zee en zeer waarschijnlijk niet het calibratiepunt...
Is er een tool om deze .cal om te zetten in een .map?

Het staat oa op de kabouter CD's. Geen idee of het ergens ter download staat.

reeg een tip van iemand dat de makers van deze blauwe jongens erg op hun kopierecht gesteld zijn en daar hard tegenaan gaan. Ik heb elke verwijzing naar "smurf" dus weggehaald op mijn pagina.
Heb inmiddels een mail verstuurd waarin ik om toewtemming voor gebruik vraag. /me is deze week in een toestemming-vraag mood....

Ik heb me daar niet mee bezig gehouden in elk geval.
/me zag een paar smurfen op de lokale rommelmarkt en kreeg gewoon een idee voor een cache.

Hallo!
Binnenkort denkt Grote Smurf een Smurfen-cache te gaan versmurfen. Waar weet hij nog niet, maar hij is wel benieuwd wat iedereen van deze cache smurft. Dus smurf naar de Smurfen cache en smurf je commentaar hier neer. Dan zoekt Grote Smurf ondertussen verder naar een smurf plekje! =8-)

Ik ben op dit moment voor een artikel in een blad een stapeltje PMR446 portofoons aan het testen. En dan denk je uiteraard ook na over gebruik tijdens cachen (al gaat mijn artikel over zakelijk gebruik...).
Ik zag team Bezemsteel al lopen met twee van die portootjes tijdens het herfstevent, maar is er eigenlijk een "standaard" geocaching kanaal? Zo van, in de buurt van de cache even oproep doen of er nog meer cachers zijn? Ik hoor wel eens kanaal 2, maar met of zonder CTCSS toon?

Als je zelf een nummer vermeld gebruik dan een oude GSM, buzzer, semafoon of zo, om stalken te voorkomen.
Ik heb gewoon mijn eigen, dagelijkse, nummer bij al mijn moeilijkere caches staan. Ik wordt nog niet gestalkt, dus het valt wel mee.

Ook Pure Fiction is per bus bereikbaar, al moet je zelf even uitzoeken welke bus. Het is namelijk een puzzelcache.

Ik heb zelf ook een V en ben byzonder tevreden. Lekker je laten navigeren tot vlak bij de cache met de auto en van daaruit door het terrein lopend ernaar toe.
Kijk voor info die niet in de manual staat eens op mijn GPS V FAQ site.
Ik zou 'm niet in de US kopen, want het prijsverschil is vrijwel nihil. Hij is in de US wel goedkoper, maar je moet er dan nog de EUR City Select kaarten bijkopen (kost weer een paar honder euro) en eigenlijk ook de Worldmap (als vervanging voor de basemap, want CS kun je niet verder uitzoomen dan 10km). En dan mis je dus de europese routeerbare basemap. Tegenwoordig komt de V trouwens standaard met een volledige europese kaartset, niet alleen benelux plus frankrijk.
Wil je in NL kopen, dan adviseer ik http://www.gps-garmin.nl, goede service en laagste prijs garantie. In engeland of zwitserland kan het vaak nog iets goedkoper, maar is de service iets verder weg.

Voor zover ik het nog allemaal begrijp, kan ik het volgende concluderen:
1 als ik een toestel heb met Europese basemap dan moet ik kaarten importeren om op straatniveau te kunnen navigeren.
2 als ik een toestel heb met de Amerikaanse basemap dan moet ik ook kaarten importeren om op straatniveau te kunnen navigeren.
Wat is nu het verschil.
Als je geen europese basemap hebt, dan MOET je kaarten laden om je te laten navigeren. Met europese basemap kun je je via de basemap laten navigeren, bijvoorbeeld bij een ritje naar de zon of sneeuw (eerst via basemap en vlak bij eindpunt via kaarten op straatnivo).

Ik ben op dit moment aan het bieden op een eMap op ebay.nl. Als alles lukt, dan koop ik er (via ebay) ook nog 128Mb bij. Leuk voor naast de GPS V.
